From Shere it's about 6.5 miles, from Gomshall about 5.5 and from Abinger Hammer about 5, and the route is the same from all three: east along the A25 into Dorking, then on to Curtis Road. These are estimates from map routing rather than timed drives, so expect bends and traffic through the villages at busy periods.

Smart entry lets you in any day from 6am to 10pm, so you are not tied to office hours.

Upper-floor units start at £26.50 a week for 16 sq ft, and 35 sq ft is £43 a week. A 175 sq ft unit is £139 upstairs and £159.50 on the ground floor, where you can drive up to the door. Everything is listed on our Dorking storage prices page, and storage is billed every four weeks rather than by calendar month.

Why Shere people store with us

Shere is the one you may recognise, since The Holiday was shot there, and its Grade I listed church is mostly Early English. Gomshall has a 17th-century watermill on the River Tillingbourne, and Abinger Hammer is named after its old water-powered iron forge, with Jack the Blacksmith striking the hour over the main road. Guildford is closer to Shere than Dorking is, but we have no site there.

Started using Wigwam when they were still Pink Hippo, back in summer of 2025 for long-term storage needs. Convenient and easy to access via the Noké Bluetooth app. However, since February they have put up their prices by around 30%, citing 'operational costs'. Rather than pay another £40/month on top of £175 for a 50sq. ft. unit, I moved out. No doubt, they are handy for anyone local who needs regular access to their belongings or equipment - just beware it comes at a cost. Also, a note to say that Claudia was always helpful if I had question or a problem.

I moved into Wigwam (Dorking) on Mon 07 Sep 2026 with assistance from Kevin & Jake of Libby's Transport (recommended by Claudia at Wigwam) who were super-helpful. We moved some stuff from my house to Wigwam and then collected more stuff from a smaller unit at makespace in Horsham (who are fine by the way but Wigwam is much closer to where I live). Kevin & Jake did most of the heavy lifting and we organised the 75 sq ft unit at Wigwam as shown in the photo. Access is really easy (from 06:00 to 22:00 365 days a year) and it's controlled by an app that opens the main gates, roller shutters, your unit etc. There's plenty of parking and the site is easy to find (opposite Champions Timber on Curtis Road). I'm using Wigwam because I am refurbishing my property and I need to enable my builders to swing a cat or two*. What really works well for me is that I can drop in on my way to LIDL or Waitrose (I go there most days) and stack up some more boxes or pick up a pair of clean socks - or whatever. * No cats were harmed during the making of this post...

A great sign-up experience at this facility when I walked in; quick and no fuss with an ideal unit available. Clean, modern and secure, with good access times. All gates and doors are managed through a phone app. Rates are reasonable, and the starting discount was a bonus. Claudia couldn't have been more helpful and efficient.

In the midst of some house-move chaos/stress, I wanted/needed to get a storage unit sorted without undue procedure, delay or expense. A quick phone call with Claudia outlined the necessary steps, and when I visited Wigwam Dorking the next day it was straightforward to get everything set up on the spot. Claudia explained everything and showed me round - she was very efficient, helpful and friendly. And when I visited two days later, on a Sunday, the access to the site and my unit via the app worked seamlessly.

This is an excellent facility. Clean, secure, well-organised and easy to access. You use an app to unlock it but it’s straightforward and no-nonsense. There are trollies to move your stuff, the lift is reliable. Out of probably a dozen visits I only encountered anyone else here two or three times. It’s fit for purpose and I would definitely use it again.

Shere storage: useful things to know

Is there a Wigwam store in Shere?

No. We serve Shere, Gomshall and Abinger Hammer from Wigwam Dorking on Curtis Road, 5 to 6.5 miles east along the A25.

How far is it from each village?

About 6.5 miles from Shere, 5.5 from Gomshall and 5 from Abinger Hammer, all by road. Those are routing estimates, so allow longer at busy times.

When can I get to my unit?

Any day from 6am to 10pm, using smart entry. The office is open Monday to Friday 8:30am to 6pm and Saturday 9am to 4pm.

Is the site step-free?

Yes, throughout, including the upper floors. Ground-floor units add drive-up access for a heavier load.

Do I need to pay a deposit?

No deposit is needed. We're not currently taking deposits from new customers.

How long do I have to stay?

The minimum stay is two weeks. After that you stay as long as you need and give 14 days' notice when you're ready to leave.

Do I need insurance?

Everything you store needs cover: our contents protection, or your own policy if it covers goods in self storage. Send us proof within 14 days of moving in and we'll refund the contents protection charges.
