If you’re planning a move, renovating or just need extra space, a 100 sq ft storage unit is usually enough for most two-bedroom homes. This size can comfortably fit beds, sofas, appliances and multiple boxes, making it a practical choice for standard flats or houses.

In this guide, we explain what each storage unit size fits and help you choose the right one for your belongings, so you can make the most of your space without overpaying.

Storage Unit Guide for A 2-Bedroom House – Understanding Your Needs

Before choosing a unit, consider what you plan to store. The contents of a two-bedroom home usually include:

  • Large pieces of furniture such as beds and wardrobes
  • Sofas, dining tables and chairs
  • Appliances like fridges and washing machines
  • Boxes filled with personal items

If you’re preparing to move house, you may need space for everything at once. However, for short-term storage or decluttering, a smaller unit could be enough.

What Size Storage Unit Do You Need?

Choosing the right storage unit depends on how much you need to store and how efficiently you pack. Here’s a quick guide to help you pick the best size for your belongings:

  • 10 Sq Ft: A few boxes, suitcases, or seasonal items. Perfect for people with minimal storage needs.
  • 25 Sq Ft: Ideal for the contents of a small studio or one-bedroom flat.
  • 50 Sq Ft: The relative size of half a garage or a small room. Great for decluttering or storing extra items from a single room.
  • 75 Sq Ft: Perfect for the contents of a small flat. With clever packing, it may even be suitable for a two-bedroom flat without bulky furnishings or appliances.
  • 100 Sq Ft: The relative size of a single garage. Works well for standard two-bedroom flats or apartments and is the most popular choice for people seeking a storage unit for a 2-bedroom home.
  • 150 Sq Ft: The size of a 1.5 garage. Ideal for larger homes, heavily furnished two-bedroom homes, or bulky items, with extra space to move around.
  • 200 Sq Ft: These units are the size of a double garage. Perfect for large homes with multiple bulky items.

Storage Unit Size Table

Unit Size                              What It Fits                                                            Ideal For
10 sq ft  Boxes, small items  Minimal storage
25 sq ft  Small studio / one-bedroom flat  Small flat contents
50 sq ft  Half a garage / small room  Partial storage
75 sq ft  Large room / small flat  Light two-bedroom flat or single room contents
100 sq ft  Single garage  Standard two-bedroom flat / most popular choice
150 sq ft  The contents of 1.5 garages  Larger homes / heavily furnished two-bedroom homes
200 sq ft  Double garage  Larger homes / bulky items

How Much Can A 2-Bedroom House Fit into Storage?

Loading boxes in storage

As a guide, the contents of a two-bedroom house typically fill a Luton van. This includes around 40-60 medium-sized boxes plus furniture.

Tips To Maximise Your Storage Space

  • Pack Smart: Use strong, same-size boxes and label everything clearly.
  • Disassemble Furniture: Take apart beds and tables to save valuable space.
  • Use Vertical Space: Stack safely to make full use of the unit height.
  • Leave Access Paths: Create a small walkway so you can reach items easily.

When Should You Choose a Bigger Unit?

In some cases, upgrading your unit is the better option. For example:

  • You’re storing items long-term
  • You have large or bulky furniture
  • You need regular access to your belongings
  • A slightly larger unit can make a big difference in convenience and organisation.

Cost Considerations for Storage Units

I have used the storage at Cheltenham for nearly two years now and have always been glad I made the change from a large facility in Kingsditch. I recall leaving a glowing review of Casey and his team when I first took on the unit. Just yesterday I left a less than complimentary review but have discovered my frustration at the time was due to misleading info I obtained over the Internet and nothing to do with Wigwam. So that review is withdrawn and I continue to recommend Wigwam as a convenient town centre facility, well run and utilising a high tech, easy to use entry system.

I can no longer recommend this storage facility after being a customer here for a few weeks. The lift to the second floor has been broken for some time, and this is a serious problem - the stairs are too narrow to get anything remotely large up to your unit, which makes storing bigger items essentially impossible. For me, that defeated the main purpose of renting a locker here.

On top of that, the dolly trolleys are meant to be returned to a designated point after use, but in practice no one does this, so you end up hunting for one. Most of the time they’re left in a separate building I don’t have access to, meaning I have to walk around 50m through corridors and up stairs carrying my belongings just to reach my unit. I reported this to reception and was told they’d return the trolleys to the proper point, but nothing has changed.

Parking is another issue - the boxing gym attached to the building also uses the car park, so it often feels crowded.

Only use this facility if you’re desperate. Otherwise, I’d look elsewhere.

Fantastic idea to use an app to gain entry. Once set up it's so easy to use and saves faffing around with keys and security fobs. My first visit was a revelation and is a definite encouragement to keep going back.
Well done Wigwam!!
