Access PIN

An access PIN is a personal number code that you type into a keypad at a storage site to open its gate or doors. At some sites the same code also sets and unsets the alarm on your unit. It is something you know rather than something you carry, so it works without a phone, but anyone who learns it can use it.

At Wigwam

Our Chipping Norton site works this way. Its page says: "When you book with us, you choose a security pin that lets you pass through the doors." Our move-in FAQ adds that "Each unit in Chipping Norton is individually alarmed, your alarm will be set and unset by your unique PIN code when you arrive and leave." The PIN doesn't open the unit itself: you bring your own padlock, or buy a keyed or combination one from reception there.

At most of our other sites there's no code to remember. Smart entry on your phone opens the gate, the doors and the unit.

What to check

Keep your PIN to yourself. Our terms say "Only You or Your Agents may access the Unit", and you are "responsible for and liable to Us and other users of the Facility for Your own actions and those of Your Agents" (clause 14). If someone else needs to get in without you, ask us to set them up as an authorised user in their own name rather than passing on your code. And if you think someone has seen your PIN, call us on 0800 2545585 as soon as the office is open. Phone help is in office hours (Chipping Norton's are Monday to Friday 9am to 6pm and Saturday 9am to 2pm), so for early, late or Sunday visits make sure you have your PIN with you before you set off.
