Can I rent a storage unit for just a week?

Not for less than two weeks. Our minimum term is two weeks, so if you need a unit for one week, you'll pay for at least two weeks, usually plus a day or two because of how notice is counted. On our September 2026 price list the two weeks alone are typically £39 for a small 25 sq ft unit and £71.50 for a 50 sq ft unit (about a one-bedroom flat's worth), though the same size costs less in some towns and more in others. You pay the first four weeks upfront when you book, give us written notice once you're in (normally 14 days, which runs alongside the two-week minimum rather than on top of it), and the paid days after your notice period ends are refunded.

What a one-week need costs

Two weeks at the weekly price, plus a day or two for the notice (see the worked example). These are the middle prices across our sites' price lists (September 2026). They cover the unit only: contents cover is compulsory on top, and the online quote shows what ours costs for your unit, or you can use your own policy.

Unit size Roughly holds Per week Two-week minimum (before notice days) Range across sites (two weeks) Paid upfront (four weeks)
25 sq ft a spare room, or a few pieces and boxes £19.50 £39 £22 to £94 £78
50 sq ft a one-bedroom flat or studio £35.75 £71.50 £41 to £152 £143
100 sq ft a two- or three-bedroom house £57.50 £115 £68 to £262 £230

"Roughly holds" follows our room-by-room size guide.

Town makes the biggest difference. The two-week cost at the lowest listed price for each size, per site (the ranges in the table above span every listed unit, including dearer ground-floor ones, so their top figures run higher):

Site 25 sq ft, two-week minimum 50 sq ft, two-week minimum
March £22 £41
Tewkesbury £30 £49
Burton-on-Trent £26 £50
Lincoln £32 £51
Shipston-on-Stour £37 £57
Reading £36 £58
Bath £57 £68
Alton £35 £75
Marlow £44 £75
Chipping Norton £30 £78
Bromsgrove £44 £81
Dorking £66 £110
Leatherhead £75 £123

Several of the lowest prices are for upper-floor units. For Cheltenham and our other sites, the online quote shows the sizes and prices available.

A worked example. A first-floor 50 sq ft unit at Reading is £29 a week on our list. You'd pay £116 for the first four weeks when you book. Email your notice on the day you move in and it counts as received the next day, so your end date lands about two days after the fortnight: roughly £66.29 for the stay (£58 plus two days at about £4.14), with about £49.71 back once you've left and your account is settled. Ask us when you give notice how soon the refund will reach you.

How a one-week stay works, step by step

  1. Book and pay. The first four weeks are paid when you book. After that, payments are taken every four weeks, in advance.
  2. Move in and give notice. Notice has to be in writing, and email is fine. Under our terms an emailed notice counts as received the day after you send it, so send it as soon as you're in and ask us to confirm your end date. Our short answer gives the minimum; the notice period that applies to you is on the front page of your agreement, and it's normally 14 days.
  3. Use the unit for your week. Access is 6am to 10pm by smart entry. Keeping the unit locked is your job under our terms, so bring a padlock; our Box Shop sells a 40mm brass one for £12.
  4. Move out, and tell us. Clear the unit, take your padlock and email us to confirm you've gone (our moving-out steps cover the rest). You pay up to the end date your notice set, even if you leave earlier, and the paid days after it are refunded.

The minimum and the notice period don't stack. Email notice on your first day and it counts from the next, so your end date falls a day or two after the fortnight rather than a fortnight on top of it. If you waited until day seven to give notice, you'd be paying until about day 22.

Why a minimum at all? Setting up and closing a storage agreement has a real cost, and the two-week floor covers it. Beyond two weeks, you pay by the day up to the end date your notice sets.

If a week turns into three

Moves slip. If your dates aren't fixed, don't give notice on day one: wait until you know, then give it. You pay by the day up to your end date, so if you give notice a fortnight before you leave, a three-week stay costs three weeks, not four.

If you've already given notice and need longer, tell us as soon as you know, before your end date. And if you forget to give notice and simply leave, our terms let us charge for the notice you didn't give, so a quick email saves money.

Other costs to plan for

Your belongings must be insured for their full replacement value the whole time they're stored, even for two weeks. The quote shows what our contents protection costs for your unit; if your own policy covers goods in storage, you can use that instead: send proof within 14 days of moving in and we refund that charge in full.

When you book, you pay a refundable deposit of two weeks' rent at your unit's standard weekly rate, plus your first four weeks' rent. The quote shows the exact amounts before you pay. Under clause 4 of the terms, the deposit is refunded by cheque or bank transfer within 21 days of your agreement ending. Any unpaid fees, or the cost of cleaning or repairs, is deducted first.

Nothing is added at checkout: the total in your quote is what you pay, and our prices include VAT.

Some of our sites discount the first weeks. The quote shows whether an offer applies to the unit you choose, and that's the price to plan with.

Is a two-week minimum normal?

Each operator sets its own. Admiral Storage's Bromsgrove page sets the same two-week minimum charge, needs no notice to leave, and takes the equivalent of eight weeks in advance when you start. Ready Steady Store's minimum term is four weeks: store for less and you still pay for four.

If a week really is all you need, compare two weeks with us against what else is open to you. Trade stock is fine: we offer business storage from as little as 14 days, and access runs 6am to 10pm, so plan early loads and late returns around that; for heavy stock, ask for a ground-floor unit. If a removal firm is moving you, ask whether they can hold the load for the week and what they charge. For a student's things between the end of one tenancy and the start of the next, a 25 sq ft unit for the two-week minimum is £22 to £94, depending on the town.
