Can I drive right up to a container unit to load?

Yes. Our container storage page says "our storage containers offer convenient drive-up access, allowing customers to easily load and unload goods straight into their containers". Our containers are at Chipping Norton, Shipston-on-Stour and Warminster, and those sites' pages give access from 6am to 10pm; our container page lists "Free access, 7 days a week". What we don't publish is the size of vehicle that can reach them, the turning room, or the container's door opening and internal height. Tell us what you're driving, whatever its size, and ask us before you book if you're loading tall or long items.

Where you can drive up to a container

Our Chipping Norton page describes that site as "easily accessible for customers across Oxfordshire and the surrounding Cotswolds area". Our containers are at these three sites:

Site Container sizes on our booking system (September 2026) Compound Insulated?
Chipping Norton 80 sq ft (10ft x 8ft) and 160 sq ft (20ft x 8ft) Access-controlled, monitored by CCTV Described as insulated
Shipston-on-Stour 160 sq ft (20ft x 8ft) Access-controlled, monitored by CCTV Described as insulated
Warminster 320 sq ft (40ft x 8ft) Monitored CCTV listed on our booking system; ask about the compound Ask when you book

Ask which sizes are free at your site; our guide to container sizes explains how our pages describe them. Our booking system describes the Chipping Norton and Shipston-on-Stour containers as insulated: "We also insulate our containers to stop condensation." For any other container, ask when you book. It isn't stated whether the listed dimensions are inside or outside measurements. At Chipping Norton our booking system also lists drive-up units that aren't containers.

What size of vehicle or trailer can get to it?

We don't publish a vehicle size limit, turning room or how close you can park to each container door, so call us on 0800 2545585 before the day and tell us what you're driving, whatever its size.

If you're towing a trailer, give us the combined length of vehicle and trailer, and ask whether you can reverse to the container door. The trailer leaves with you: clause 11 says "Any items left unattended in common areas at the Facility or outside Your Unit at any time shall be treated as abandoned and may at Our discretion be moved, sold or disposed of immediately with no liability to Us".

One phrase is easy to misread. Our container page says a 160 sq ft container can hold "the contents of a 3-bedroom home or even a 7.5-tonne lorry load". That describes how much fits inside. It doesn't say a 7.5-tonne lorry can drive up to the container, so ask before you book one.

For Chipping Norton, our location page says "The site also offers practical loading access for vans, moving vehicles, and larger deliveries". Our Shipston-on-Stour page says "The facility also offers practical loading access", and our Warminster page says "Furnax Lane also provides straightforward access for vans and larger moving vehicles". These describe the sites as a whole, so still check the route to the container you're booking.

Moving house: loading from a van or with a removals firm

Driving up means you can load from the van straight into the container. Before the day, measure your longest and tallest items and the widest thing that has to go through the door, then ask us for the container's door opening and internal height. Clause 26 of our terms says unit sizes "are approximate" and that "If You have exact requirements, You must check with Us before signing this Agreement".

Access itself runs from 6am to 10pm, seven days, but the offices keep shorter hours: all three sites' pages give "Saturday – 9:00am to 2:00pm" and "Sunday – Closed". So if you're moving on a Sunday, sort out vehicle access with us before the day, and confirm your hours when you book. Clause 13 provides for extended access outside normal hours where we've agreed it, "subject to You paying any relevant additional charges", so ask when you book.

If a removals firm is doing the loading, plan for someone from your side to be there. Our guide to booking storage for a move says "a removals crew cannot be left to load into the unit without you".

Trades and businesses: loading tools, stock and pallets

Four rules affect what goes in the van:

  • Clause 18(c) rules out "gas, paint, petrol, oil, cleaning solvents or compressed gases". Drain fuel and oil from mixers, generators and plant, and ask us before bringing any engine.
  • Clause 22(e) says you must not "connect or provide any utilities or services to the Unit unless authorised by Us", so plan to charge batteries and tools elsewhere.
  • Clause 20.1 says goods with built-in batteries must not be stacked and must be "stored allowing air circulation", and the terms add: "We recommend all batteries are stored with the lowest practical charge".
  • Clause 22(f) makes you responsible for damage to the unit or the site, including damage caused "by removal, haulage or delivery contractors", so brief your driver on the route you've agreed with us.

If your stock arrives on pallets, ask whether a pallet can be unloaded by machine at your site before you arrange a delivery.

If your work depends on getting in at a fixed time, know that clause 12 lets us "change Access Hours temporarily to other reasonable times without giving prior notice", and clause 29 says we are not liable if you can't get in to the site or your unit, "regardless of the cause". Keep a fallback for anything a job can't wait for.

Loading for someone else

You can drive up and load for a relative: clause 14 lets "You or Your Agents" access the unit, so tell us who will be driving when you book. See do I have to be there on moving-in day?

On the day: getting in, locking up, and nothing left outside

Our Chipping Norton page says "you choose a security pin that lets you pass through the doors", and our Shipston-on-Stour and Warminster pages list a "Mobile Smart Entry System". When you book, ask how you'll open the gate at your site and whether your container needs your own padlock: clause 21 says "You will be solely responsible for securing the Unit and ensuring it is locked". Our guide to padlocks covers the rest.

Load straight in. As above, clause 11 treats anything left outside your unit as abandoned, and clause 22(g) says you must not "create any obstruction or leave items or refuse in any common space". Clause 21 adds: "Where applicable, You will secure the external gates and/or doors of the Facility", so close any gate or door you came through when you leave. What a container costs

On our September 2026 price list, the 160 sq ft container at Shipston-on-Stour is £64 a week. Nothing is added at checkout: the total in your quote is what you pay, and our prices include VAT. Our Shipston-on-Stour page carries the banner "50% off your first 8 weeks on Container Storage"; check it shows on your quote. Questions to ask before you book

  • What is the largest vehicle that can reach the container, and is there room to turn?
  • Can I park right at the container door?
  • The office is closed on Sunday: who do I call if I can't get in?
  • What are the container's door opening and internal height, and are the listed sizes inside or outside measurements?
  • Can pallets be unloaded by machine?
  • At Warminster: is the container insulated, and what is the compound arrangement?
