Our booking system (September 2026) lists three container sizes: at Chipping Norton, an 80 sq ft container (10ft x 8ft) and a 160 sq ft container (20ft x 8ft); at Shipston-on-Stour, a 160 sq ft container (20ft x 8ft); and at Warminster, a 320 sq ft container (40ft x 8ft). Our container storage page describes a 160 sq ft container as able to "comfortably hold the contents of a 3-bedroom home or even a 7.5-tonne lorry load". We don't publish a container's internal height or door opening, so if you have a tall or long item, measure it and ask us before you book.
Container sizes by site
| Site | Size on our booking system | Dimensions as listed | Floor area as listed | Insulated? |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Chipping Norton | 80 sq ft | 10ft x 8ft | 7.4 m² | Described as insulated |
| Chipping Norton | 160 sq ft | 20ft x 8ft | 14.9 m² | Described as insulated |
| Shipston-on-Stour | 160 sq ft | 20ft x 8ft | 14.9 m² | Described as insulated |
| Warminster | 320 sq ft | 40ft x 8ft | 29.8 m² | Not stated |
Our container storage page says our containers "are 160 sq ft in size", but the booking system also lists the 80 sq ft and 320 sq ft sizes above, so ask which sizes are free at your site when you book. Our containers are at these three sites, and our short answer on whether units are inside or outside calls them "a limited selection", so availability matters as much as size.
On insulation, our booking system describes the Chipping Norton and Shipston-on-Stour containers as insulated: "We also insulate our containers to stop condensation." For any other container, ask when you book. Our guide to condensation in container units covers packing for it. Our container page says the Shipston-on-Stour and Chipping Norton containers sit in an access-controlled compound monitored by CCTV. Our booking system lists monitored CCTV for the Warminster container too; ask about its compound when you book. Ask, too, whether your container opens with smart entry or needs your own padlock (see do I need my own padlock?).
What fits: a three- or four-bed house move, or downsizing
Our container page and our Shipston-on-Stour page put the 160 sq ft container at the contents of a three-bedroom home or a 7.5-tonne lorry load. We don't publish a household description for the other two sizes. The 80 sq ft container has half the listed floor area of a 160 sq ft one; the 320 sq ft container at Warminster has twice it. For a four-bed house, our Warminster booking system describes the 200 sq ft indoor unit as "Large enough to store the contents of a standard four-bedroom house"; the 320 sq ft container has 1.6 times that listed floor area. That compares a container with an indoor room, so ask us to confirm it for your furniture.
We don't publish whether the Warminster container is insulated. If sofas, mattresses and beds will be in a container over a winter, ask about that, and about an indoor unit at the same site, before you book; see condensation in container units. Under clauses 30 and 31, your goods are stored "at Your sole risk and responsibility" and must "remain adequately insured by You at all times for their Replacement Value", and our guide to climate-controlled storage says the contents protection policy "does not cover atmospheric or climatic damage".
Our terms put the responsibility on you to check. Clause 26 says: "Unit sizes are approximate. If You have exact requirements, You must check with Us before signing this Agreement as, by signing, You agree to the actual size of the Unit and not any represented unit size." In plain words: if a tight fit matters, confirm the measurements before you sign, because once you sign you've accepted the unit as it is.
Measurements to ask us for
The dimensions in the table are the ones our booking system gives. It doesn't say whether they are outside or inside measurements, and it gives no height or door size. Before you book, measure these, and give us the figures:
- your longest item (a sofa, a dining table, timber or pipe lengths);
- your tallest item, standing up (a wardrobe, a fridge-freezer, shelving);
- the widest thing that has to pass through the door.
Then ask us for the container's internal length, width and height and its door opening, what size of vehicle can reach it and how much turning room there is at your site, and whether pallets can be unloaded by machine. If you're stacking high, our guide to how high units are covers safe stacking. Clause 22(d) says you must not "attach anything to the internal or external surfaces of the Unit", so plan on freestanding storage only, and ask us before putting up freestanding shelving or racking.
For businesses and trades: stock, equipment and long lengths
Our booking system describes the 160 sq ft and 320 sq ft containers as "Perfect for excess warehouse stock and large business equipment", and the 80 sq ft container as "Perfect for excess stock and business equipment". They're drive-up, so you can load straight from your vehicle, if your vehicle can reach it (ask us what size can). If you're storing long items such as scaffold boards, ask us for the container's internal length before relying on it for them, and see container storage or a container on your own land for the rules on business use, fuel and power.
What a container costs
On our September 2026 price list, the 160 sq ft container at Shipston-on-Stour is £64 a week, or £256 every four weeks. Our Shipston-on-Stour page carries the banner "50% off your first 8 weeks on Container Storage"; check it shows on your quote. The same September 2026 Shipston-on-Stour list has indoor units at £28.50 a week (50 sq ft) and £57 a week (100 sq ft). Nothing is added at checkout: the total in your quote is what you pay, and our prices include VAT. As our container page puts it, "If 160 sq. ft is a little too much space for your needs, Wigwam also offers a wide range of secure indoor personal storage". The Chipping Norton and Warminster container prices aren't on our site-named price lists, so you'll need a quote. Our guide to container costs has the full picture.
Check the fit, then book
Measure your longest and tallest items, then get a price online or call us on 0800 2545585 and ask for the container's internal measurements and door size at your site. Our container storage page also gives "01608 532162 for container storage", which is the number on our Shipston-on-Stour page; our Chipping Norton page gives 01608 656300 and our Warminster page 01985 208118. If none of these three sites is near you, our locations page lists our sites.
