Our Chipping Norton site, which serves "customers across Oxfordshire and the surrounding Cotswolds area", offers vehicle storage. Its booking list on 23 September 2026 had two vehicle options: a car parking space (a single space in a secure compound, covered by CCTV), and drive-up units with extra-wide roller-shutter doors, which our vehicle storage page offers for motorbikes, scooters and cars up to compact SUVs. For the parking space your vehicle must be taxed, insured and have an MOT, and we can't take SORN vehicles, trailers, caravans or campervans. For a drive-up unit, our vehicle storage page asks for an insurance cover note and an up-to-date MOT certificate. We don't insure vehicles ourselves. Vans aren't named on our booking list or vehicle storage page, so if you want to store a van, ask us before you book. You can't keep spare fuel or oil in your unit or work on the vehicle there. Prices for vehicle spaces aren't on our published price list, so get a price online or call 0800 2545585.

Which sites offer vehicle storage
| Site | What's offered (23 September 2026) |
|---|---|
| Chipping Norton | A car parking space in a secure compound, and drive-up units of 90, 180 and 440 sq ft |
| Bromsgrove | Sources disagree: its Google business description says "car storage", but its online booking list shows no parking space or drive-up unit. Call before you plan on it |
Nearer another of our sites? Call and ask. Chipping Norton serves nearby areas "including Moreton-in-Marsh, Banbury, Burford, Stow-on-the-Wold and Shipston-on-Stour". Our vehicle storage page lists 01608 656300 for vehicle bookings; our main number is 0800 2545585. Some of our pages, including student and moving-abroad guides, say we don't store vehicles; our booking list and vehicle storage page, which is what you book from, show Chipping Norton does.
Parking space or drive-up unit
| Car parking space | 90 sq ft drive-up unit | 180 sq ft drive-up unit | |
|---|---|---|---|
| What it is | One space in a secure compound covered by CCTV | Its own unit, roller-shutter door, individually alarmed | The same, twice the depth |
| Size | Not stated | 2.8m deep; door 2.36m wide, 2m high | 5.6m deep; door 2.36m wide, 2m high |
| Needs | Tax, insurance and MOT. No SORN vehicles, trailers, caravans or campervans | Insurance cover note and up-to-date MOT certificate | Insurance cover note and up-to-date MOT certificate |
The booking list also has a 440 sq ft drive-up unit; ask us for its dimensions. If you want a car and a motorbike or e-scooter together in one 180 sq ft unit, ask us before you book whether that's allowed and whether both fit.
Measure before you choose. Check your car's length against the 2.8m and 5.6m depths; we don't publish which cars fit the 90 sq ft unit. Anything taller than 2m, roof box included, won't fit under the door, and measure the width across the mirrors. The parking space is a space in the compound rather than a unit, so ask whether it's covered if you need the weather kept off.
Cars, vans, motorbikes and other vehicles
| Vehicle | Where it stands |
|---|---|
| Motorbikes and scooters | Listed on our vehicle storage page for the drive-up units |
| Small cars, hatchbacks, mid-size cars, compact SUVs | Listed on our vehicle storage page. Check the length against the unit depth |
| Classic cars | Our vehicle storage page mentions them. See the MOT note below |
| Vans | Not named on either listing. Ask us, and remember the 2m door |
| Electric cars and electric motorbikes | See "Fuel, batteries and charging" |
| Caravans, campervans, trailers | The parking-space listing says we can't store them |
| Motorhomes and boats | Neither is offered on our booking list, so ask us |
What you need: documents, insurance, tax and MOT
To book, you'll need the same photo ID and recent utility bill as for any unit (see what documents you need), plus the vehicle documents in the table above.
What you store stays at your own risk (clause 30 of our terms), so check your motor policy covers the vehicle while it's kept at our site, including fire and theft.
SORN, tax and MOT
The law lets you declare a vehicle off the road (a Statutory Off Road Notification, or SORN). GOV.UK says a vehicle is off the road "if you do not keep or use it on a public road, for example if it’s in a garage, on a drive or on private land", and GOV.UK says a vehicle kept off the road with a SORN doesn't need insurance. That's the law's minimum; the parking space's rules in the table above are stricter. The vehicle storage page doesn't mention tax for the drive-up units, so if you want to SORN a vehicle in one, ask before you book.
Watch the MOT date. GOV.UK says you can't renew vehicle tax once the MOT has expired, and you "cannot drive or park your vehicle on the road if the MOT has run out", except to or from a repair or a pre-arranged MOT test. Book the test before it lapses and collect the vehicle during access hours, normally 6am to 10pm (check the Chipping Norton page). If you'll be away when it falls due, arrange now for someone to collect it (see "Someone else collecting the vehicle" below).
We don't publish whether the MOT and insurance must stay current for the whole stay, or whether a motorbike or moped can use the parking space; ask when you book. Going abroad for months? Plan for the MOT and insurance falling due while you're away.
Classic cars: GOV.UK says no MOT is needed if the vehicle "was built or first registered more than 40 years ago" with no "substantial changes", and one built before 1 January 1986 can go into the "historic tax class", which may meet the parking space's tax rule where a SORN can't; ask us. The person named on the log book (V5C) applies at a Post Office, with a V112 if the vehicle is MOT-exempt. Ask us what we'll accept instead of an MOT.
Vans, business vehicles and someone else's car
Vans aren't named on our listings, so call first with the van's height and length. Clause 18(c) applies to what's inside the van too: it bars "gas, paint, petrol, oil, cleaning solvents or compressed gases", so take gas cartridges, solvents and aerosols out of a trade van before you store it.
If the vehicle isn't yours, say a parent's car while they're in care or a car from an estate, clause 1(c) asks you to confirm you own what you store or are "entitled at law to deal with" it as the owner's agent. Ask us when you book what proof we'll want.
Someone else collecting the vehicle
If you're posted or working away and a partner or friend may need to collect the vehicle, clause 14 of our terms applies: "Only You or Your Agents may access the Unit." We may ask anyone for proof of identity and refuse access without it. Ask us when you book how to add the person who'll collect, and tell them to bring photo ID. Check too that they're insured to drive the vehicle before they take it out.
Fuel, batteries and charging
Our terms bar "combustible or flammable substances including but not limited to gas, paint, petrol, oil, cleaning solvents or compressed gases" (clause 18(c)). So spare fuel cans, engine oil and aerosols such as chain lube can't be stored with the vehicle. The terms don't make an exception for fuel in a vehicle's tank either, so ask us when you book what fuel level we need.
For electric and hybrid vehicles, clause 20 is the one to read:
- 20(a): a lithium-ion battery over 160Wh can be stored only if it is "built-in and cannot be removed". A removable battery over 160Wh, as on some electric motorbikes and scooters, has to be taken out and kept elsewhere.
- 20.1: anything with a built-in battery must be free of visible defects or faults, not stacked, and have air around it. We also recommend the lowest practical charge.
You can't charge a vehicle or plug in a battery maintainer: clause 22(e) says you mustn't "connect or provide any utilities or services to the Unit unless authorised by Us". See do storage units have electricity.
Store it, don't work on it
A unit is for storage only (clause 22), so you can check on the vehicle, but not service, repair or refuel it there. Our guide to working on a car in a storage unit covers what counts as work, and what to do with parts and fluids.
Prices, booking and existing customers
We don't publish prices for the parking space or drive-up units, so get a price online for Chipping Norton or call 0800 2545585. Our vehicle storage page says contracts roll on with a minimum stay of 14 days, and you set your own access code.
Already storing with us at another site and want to add a motorbike to your unit? Ask first: ordinary units aren't sold as vehicle storage.
