Our current pages don't describe a packing or collection service of our own; we sell packing kits through our Box Shop, and we can recommend local removal and man-and-van firms. Our help page says: "Please call us and we can put you in touch with our preferred removals." Our storage terms mention "additional services We offer, such as delivery and collection", adding: "You will need to sign up to Our terms and conditions for such services which may be subject to additional charges". Call us on 0800 2545585 to ask what's available for your move. Moving a household, downsizing without a car, moving a student room or moving a business? Each has a section below.
Packing: what we sell
Our short answer on whether we offer packaging points you to the shop. Here is what the three moving kits held on the shop on 23 September 2026:
| Kit | Price shown | Boxes (double-walled) | Also in the kit |
|---|---|---|---|
| Student Moving Kit | £35.00 (shown reduced from £43.99) | 5 medium (457 x 330 x 330mm), 5 large (450 x 450 x 500mm) | Tape, marker pen |
| Standard Moving Kit | £99.99 (shown reduced from £126.48) | 10 medium, 10 large, 5 tall (450 x 450 x 750mm) | Tape, marker pen, 25m roll of bubble wrap |
| Large Moving Kit | £195.00 (shown reduced from £250.97) | 15 medium, 15 large, 10 tall | Tape, marker pen, 25m roll of bubble wrap |
For furniture and fragile things, the shop also listed a 1500 x 2000mm transit blanket at £5.00 and 2.5kg of ink-free packing paper at £9.99. Some sites sell packing supplies too. The Chipping Norton and Leatherhead pages list an "On-site packaging store", the Alton page lists "on-site support (including a box shop with packaging supplies)", and several of our price pages say packaging supplies are available on site (Dorking's and Burton-on-Trent's: "Packaging supplies available on site"; Marlow's: "Packaging supplies and padlocks available on site"). Ring your site to check what it has; can I buy boxes at a Wigwam site has more.
If you'd rather someone packed for you, that is a service to ask a removal firm to quote for. Our pages don't say whether the firms we recommend pack, so ask us when you call.
Collection: what we publish now, and what older posts said
Our live help page today says: "We can recommend local and reliable Removals and Man & Van services, if you require help bringing your stuff to Wigwam and / or help unloading. Please call us and we can put you in touch with our preferred removals." Our Chipping Norton page says "Recommended van hire and man-and-van services on request".
Whether anyone will be on site on the day isn't the same everywhere in what we publish. Some of our guides describe our sites as unmanned ("Sites are unmanned", in our notice guide), while some of our location pages mention an on-site team (for example Chipping Norton, "A friendly on-site team ready to help with queries", and Bath, "Friendly and helpful on-site team"), so ask whether anyone will be at your site (see is there anyone on site to help me unload or load my stuff).
Clause 44 of our terms, quoted above, adds that we "would be pleased to provide details" of those services, so ask us before you plan around one. Older posts on our site describe a man-and-van service of our own ("our man & van service in Chipping Norton", 20 August 2019), but our current wording, above, is a recommendation on request.
Using a removal firm or a man-and-van
Whichever firm you choose, ask them:
- whether the price is fixed or by the hour, and what counts as extra time;
- whether they will carry everything all the way into the unit;
- what cover they hold for your goods in transit and for damage they cause;
- whether they can collect from your home if you won't be there, and how they get in;
- whether they pack, and what materials they bring.
How the crew gets into your unit
Our guide to how much notice you need to book storage for a move (8 July 2026) says: "If you are using a removals firm, someone from your household needs to be there", and "a removals crew cannot be left to load into the unit without you". The same guide says "someone from your side needs to be there if other people are handling your goods". So someone from your side has to be at the unit while a removals crew or courier is loading or unloading, and anyone you give access to is your responsibility under our terms (clauses 14 and 16). Our terms define an agent as persons "who you authorise, or who accompany you", and clause 14 says "Only You or Your Agents may access the Unit", so a friend, relative or colleague with their own access, whom you've authorised, can be the person there. Do I have to be there on moving-in day? explains how to set that up and what to ask us first. Access is normally 6am to 10pm (check your site's page and confirm your hours when you book), and "You can park for free whilst you unload in the customer car park attached to the facility."
If the crew damages the unit
Clause 22(f) says you must not "(or allow any other person to)… cause damage to the Unit or any part of the Facility (which includes by removal, haulage or delivery contractors)". Clause 23 then lets us "claim full reimbursement from You of the reasonable costs of repairs, replacement, restoration". In plain words: if your removal firm dents a door or scrapes a wall, you answer to us for it. Our reading of clause 22(f) is that recovering that cost from the firm is then a matter between you and them, which the terms don't cover. That's why their damage cover is worth asking about. Clause 24 also requires you to ensure your agents "use reasonable care on site".
For who covers your belongings between the van and the unit, see are my belongings covered while moving into storage.
Downsizing and doing the move yourself, without a car
Our guide to downsizing after retirement (8 July 2026) says: "Most of our customers use a local removal firm for the heavy work and handle the sorting visits themselves." Call us for a recommendation, and see do I have to be there on moving-in day for sending a stand-in. If you don't have a smartphone, tell us, as we can supply a fob instead.
Students and parents: collection from halls
Our student guide (8 July 2026) says "there is no collection service from your halls and no staff to carry boxes." The same guide adds: "If you genuinely have only a handful of boxes and no way to move them, a by-the-box courier service is a different model worth comparing, but for a full room a local unit near the new house is usually both cheaper and simpler."
Without a car, the Box Shop offers "fast delivery direct to your door", so the Student Moving Kit can come to your halls or house. If a man-and-van brings your boxes to the unit, you or a friend with access must meet it (see how the crew gets into your unit). In Bath, our location page says the site is "easy to reach by both car and train". Our student storage page and halls to a house share guide cover the rest.
Businesses and moving out
For a business, the same applies to your own couriers and hauliers: clause 22(f) names "haulage or delivery contractors" too. If you're moving out, clause 22(f) applies just the same when a crew empties the unit, and you can ask us for a recommendation for that move too. Leave the unit as the terms require (see do I need to leave my unit clean).
What to ask us
Call 0800 2545585:
- whether the removal firm we recommend for your site also packs, and how it prices that;
- whether any delivery or collection service under clause 44 is available for your move, and its price;
- whether your site sells boxes on site.
