Home staging is preparing a home for sale or to let so that buyers or tenants can picture themselves living there: clearing clutter and personal items, rearranging or bringing in furniture, and dressing rooms for the listing photos and viewings.
Decluttering is the first half: taking things out. Staging goes further and decides what stays, where it sits and what gets added. Either way, where does it all go while the home is on the market?
Home staging at Wigwam
A storage unit holds what comes out of the house until the sale is done.
- How long. The minimum stay is two weeks. After that there is no fixed end date: our terms say either side "may end this Agreement at any time by giving the other party written notice". Notice is "Normally 14 days" (see notice period), and "You can give notice during the minimum period". Our move-out FAQ says we refund "any unused days on your contract after the notice period". If the sale falls through, nothing changes and nothing has to come back to the house.
- What it costs. About £78 for 25 sq ft and £143 for 50 sq ft per four weeks: the median (middle value) of the listed prices on our September 2026 price lists, before any introductory offer. Prices vary by site. Nothing is added at checkout: the total in your quote is what you pay, and our prices include VAT. When you book, you pay a refundable deposit of two weeks' rent at your unit's standard weekly rate, refunded within 21 days of your agreement ending (clause 4). See what it costs to store furniture or get an online quote.
- Access. Normally 6am to 10pm, seven days, by smart entry (check your site's page and confirm your hours when you book; Cheltenham's page shows both 8am to 6pm on weekdays and 10am to 4pm at weekends and bank holidays, and 6am to 10pm). So you can clear in stages and fetch things back between viewings.
- Moving day. Our home staging guide says "Wigwam does not sign for deliveries or receive goods on your behalf", and our moving guide says "a removals crew cannot be left to load into the unit without you". So you or someone from your side must be there (who can stand in). To set up a stand-in's access at your site, call 0800 2545585.
If you stage homes for a living
Our guide for home stagers says a 25 sq ft unit "handles lighter decor" and a 50 to 75 sq ft unit "is closer to what a mid-size staging inventory needs". Scaling means adding or releasing whole units, and a second unit is "subject to availability at your site". If you hold a client's things on your own account, "the value you declare needs to include them" (see declared value and business storage).
