Short-term storage

Short-term storage is renting storage space for a few weeks or a few months, usually to get through a move, a renovation, a sale or a gap between homes. What makes storage work for a short stay is a low minimum term and a short notice period, so you pay only for the weeks you use.

At Wigwam

Our minimum stay is two weeks. There is no separate short-term contract: you take the same rolling agreement as a long-stay customer and leave when you're ready. The pieces that decide what a short stay costs:

  • Clause 5 says we take the first payment when your order is accepted and later payments in advance for each period.
  • Clause 41 sets the notice as the number of days on the front page of your agreement, normally 14 days, given in writing under clause 39: by email to info@wigwamstorage.co.uk, or by hand or post to the address on your Cover Sheet.
  • After the notice period, we refund any unused days on your contract.

A worked example: you need a 50 sq ft unit for three weeks. That's over the two-week minimum. Clause 5(a) says "We will take the first payment on acceptance of Your order and will take subsequent payments in advance on the invoice date for each Storage Period", and the length of that period is on your agreement. To be out after three weeks with 14 days' notice, give notice by the end of week one. Once the notice period ends, the days you paid for but didn't use are refunded. At the middle of our September 2026 price lists, 50 sq ft is £143 per four weeks (£35.75 a week), so three weeks' storage comes to about £107 at that rate. You pay a full period in advance first, and the unused days are refunded after the notice period, so £107 is what the stay costs once that refund comes back. Check your quote for whether a deposit applies on top. If your leaving date is already fixed, tell us when you book.

If you booked online or by phone without visiting the site, clause 40 gives you 14 days from our acceptance of your order to change your mind, with a refund based on the storage you've used.

Short-term or long-term?

In our terms there is no difference: the same agreement runs for two weeks or two years. What changes is what to weigh. On a short stay, the notice period and any introductory offer can make up a large share of the total; on a long stay, the regular price and the chance of it changing matter more. For those, see long-term storage.
