Packing paper is plain, unprinted paper for wrapping fragile items and filling gaps in boxes so nothing shifts. It does the job people often use newspaper for, without the printing ink.
At Wigwam
Our Box Shop sells one packing paper, for delivery to your door. Price as listed in September 2026, not on sale (the page's price data marks it as including VAT):
| Product | What the shop says | Price |
|---|---|---|
| White Packing Paper (2.5kg bundle) | "Ink-free white paper – keeps items clean without staining" | £9.99 |
The page calls it "Perfect for fragile items – wrap glasses, plates, ornaments, and kitchenware" and an "Ideal void-fill material – prevents movement inside boxes". It promises "plenty of sheets" but gives no sheet size or count. It doesn't state a delivery charge; ask on 0800 2545585. None of our moving kits lists packing paper in its contents. Over-the-counter stock isn't stated: see which sites sell packing supplies and ask there.
Packing paper, newspaper, tissue and bubble wrap
Newspaper carries ink; the product page's point is "Unlike newspaper, it contains no ink". For silver it's worse than a mark: the National Trust says "Do not wrap silver in newspaper as this will rapidly tarnish it, nor seal in bubblewrap or plastic as these trap moisture", and advises "special tarnish-reducing bags and jewellery pouches" instead.
Acid-free tissue is a different product. Our packing paper isn't described as acid-free, and our shop doesn't list tissue, so for heirlooms, ask on 0800 2545585 before relying on it. For precious ceramics, the National Trust's guide How to care for your precious objects suggests "a strong plastic case wrapped in acid-free tissue paper and bubblewrap".
Bubble wrap cushions knocks; paper gives a clean first layer and fills space. For china stored for months, put paper against each piece and bubble wrap loosely round the outside, not taped airtight, and pack nothing while it's damp.
Packing a kitchen or selling online? The product page lists "Packing kitchenware and fragile household items" and "Online sellers needing clean packing material" among its uses.
