Yes. Our September 2026 price list shows ground-floor units at the sites it covers; for Cheltenham, Bristol (Hengrove) and Warminster, which aren't on that list, call us on 0800 2545585 to check a ground-floor unit before you book. Alton, Bath, Bromsgrove, Burton-on-Trent, Dorking, Lincoln, March and Tewkesbury have a lift to the upper floors. Two upper floors that we know of are reached by stairs only: the first floor at Leatherhead, and the mezzanine at Chipping Norton, which our price list marks "No lift". For Marlow, Reading and Shipston-on-Stour, ask us whether there's a lift. If you'd rather avoid the building altogether, Chipping Norton, Shipston-on-Stour and Warminster also have drive-up units and containers you can park beside. Upstairs units are often cheaper: apart from Alton, March and Shipston-on-Stour, where both floors cost the same at every size they share, the same size usually costs less upstairs, by anything from a few per cent to more than a third, though not always at the smallest sizes (at Bath, 10 sq ft is £6 more every four weeks upstairs).
Site by site
These are the floors on our September 2026 price list. Every price on this page is per four weeks. The last two columns give the lowest listed price for a small upstairs unit (25 sq ft, about the contents of a student room or a spare room's worth of boxes) and for a 50 sq ft ground-floor unit (about a one-bedroom flat's worth), so you can budget.
| Site | Upper floors on our list | Getting up there | Upstairs compared with ground floor, same size | Upstairs, 25 sq ft | Ground floor, 50 sq ft |
|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| Alton | First floor, 10 to 125 sq ft | Lift | Same price | £70 | £150 |
| Bath | First and second floors, 10 to 150 sq ft | Lift | Mostly £4 to £26 less; 10 sq ft is £6 more and 150 sq ft £10 more | £114 | £156 |
| Bromsgrove | First floor, 10 to 125 sq ft | Goods lift | £2 to £22 less | £88 | £184 |
| Burton-on-Trent | First and second floors, 5 to 200 sq ft | Lift | £2 to £46 less (about 12% to 14%) | £52 | £114 |
| Chipping Norton | Mezzanine, 10 to 100 sq ft | Stairs only: listed "No lift" | £16 to £60 less (about 18% to 38%) | £60 | £156 |
| Dorking | Upper floors, 16 to 175 sq ft | Lift | £18 to £82 less | £132 | Not listed (30 sq ft £176) |
| Leatherhead | First floor, 10 to 150 sq ft | Stairs only, no lift | £28 to £156 less (about a fifth) | £150 | £304 |
| Lincoln | Upper floors, 10 to 150 sq ft | Lift | £4 to £42 less | £64 | £118 |
| March | First floor, 10 to 250 sq ft | Lift | Same price | £44 | £82 |
| Marlow | First floor, 10 to 100 sq ft | Ask us | £6 to £38 less | £88 | £170 |
| Reading | First floor, 20 to 100 sq ft | Ask us | £10 to £38 less | £72 | £154 |
| Shipston-on-Stour | First floor, 15 to 200 sq ft | Ask us | Same price | £74 | £114 |
| Tewkesbury | First floor, 10 to 200 sq ft | Lift | £4 to £24 less | £60 | £112 |
Two examples of what that means in money. A 100 sq ft unit at Leatherhead is £416 on the first floor and £524 on the ground floor. At Chipping Norton, 35 sq ft is £72 on the mezzanine and £116 on the ground floor. At both sites, the cheaper floor is the one without a lift.
The comparison only covers sizes offered on both floors. Lift sizes and weight limits differ by site, so if you're bringing a bike, a wardrobe or anything long, ask us whether it fits the lift before you book upstairs. Some units on the second floor at Lincoln are listed as restricted height; if height matters, ask us before you book. For Cheltenham, Bristol (Hengrove) and Warminster, get a price online or call us for the floors and prices there. Prices change, and introductory offers vary by site, so the quote is always the price that counts. Nothing is added at checkout: the total in your quote is what you pay, and our prices include VAT.
Some sizes are only on one floor
Choosing a floor can also mean choosing from a different set of sizes:
- The biggest units are mostly on the ground floor only. At Reading, for example, everything from 125 sq ft up to 450 sq ft is downstairs, and at Chipping Norton everything from 125 sq ft to 300 sq ft.
- Some of the smallest units are upstairs only. At Alton and March, units under 50 sq ft are on the first floor, and at Dorking the 16, 35, 50 and 75 sq ft sizes are upstairs.
- A few large sizes are upstairs only: 175 sq ft at Burton-on-Trent, and 175 and 200 sq ft at Shipston-on-Stour.
So if you want a small unit on the ground floor at Alton or March, the nearest match downstairs is 50 sq ft. Your quote will show what's free at the size you pick.
Which floor suits you
If you're moving heavy or bulky furniture, or you can't manage stairs, book a ground-floor unit. There's no floor to climb to. You can park for free while you unload in the customer car park at the site, and trolleys are there to wheel things in. How far your unit is from the entrance depends on which one you get, so if you can't carry far, ask us for a ground-floor unit near the entrance when you book. If you can't manage stairs at all, tell us when you book and ask us to confirm how you'll reach your unit. For getting into the building itself in a wheelchair, see step-free access at our sites.
If you're storing boxes and lighter things and want to keep the cost down, an upstairs unit with a lift is often the better deal. At Alton and March upstairs costs the same as downstairs; so does Shipston-on-Stour, where you should ask us whether there is a lift. Avoid the stairs-only floors at Leatherhead and Chipping Norton unless you're happy to carry everything up by hand. If you need help with the heavy lifting, we can put you in touch with local removals firms.
If you're a tradesperson or a small business in and out every week, look at a drive-up unit at Chipping Norton, Shipston-on-Stour or Warminster. You park next to the door and load straight in, with no lifts, trolleys or corridors. There are only a limited number of them; most of our units are indoor rooms, as our short answer on indoor and outdoor units explains.
If the floor stops suiting you
If you're upstairs and it becomes too much, call us and ask about a ground-floor unit. Moving depends on what's free at your site.
Our terms also let us move you to another unit that's no smaller than yours (clause 25). We give 14 days' notice, and you can choose to end your agreement instead. We only move you at shorter notice if an incident means your unit or its section has to be closed. We pay reasonable removal costs that we've approved in writing beforehand.
Book the floor you need
