At Shipston-on-Stour, a 160 sq ft (20ft x 8ft) container is £64 a week, or £256 every four weeks, on our September 2026 price list. That is about 40p per sq ft a week, less per square foot than any indoor unit at Shipston. Our prices include VAT, and nothing is added at checkout. Shipston's is the only container price on our list: for the Chipping Norton (80 and 160 sq ft) and Warminster (320 sq ft) containers, the price shows on your online quote, or call 0800 2545585. When you book, you also pay a refundable deposit of two weeks' rent, and your goods need contents cover: ours, or insurance you arrange at your own expense.
Container prices by site
| Site | Container sizes (as listed) | Price on our September 2026 list | Offer |
|---|---|---|---|
| Shipston-on-Stour | 160 sq ft (20ft x 8ft) | £64 a week, £256 per four weeks | List shows 50% off the first 8 weeks, "Containers Only" |
| Chipping Norton | 80 sq ft (10ft x 8ft) and 160 sq ft (20ft x 8ft) | Not on our list: ask for a quote | Booking page tags both containers "First 4 weeks 50% off"; check it shows on your quote |
| Warminster | 320 sq ft (40ft x 8ft) | Not on our list: ask for a quote | Ask when you book |
Only one container price is listed, so don't read Shipston's £64 as the price elsewhere. Our pages don't say whether the footprints are internal or external measurements, so if long lengths of timber or scaffold have to fit, ring us with the measurements before you book.
Our online booking pages don't tag the Shipston container with the offer, so if your quote doesn't show it, ask before you book, and budget with the full price.
A January 2020 post on our blog listed Chipping Norton's containers "Starting at just £100 +VAT". It doesn't say whether that is per week or per four weeks, or whether VAT is added on top, so if that's the figure you're working from, ask on 0800 2545585 which applies. More in do storage prices include VAT?
What you pay on day one and over a stay
When you book, you pay a refundable deposit of two weeks' rent at your unit's standard weekly rate, plus your first four weeks' rent; your quote shows the exact amounts. On Shipston's listed £64, that is a £128 deposit and £256 of rent (£128 if the offer applies), plus contents cover. Under clause 4 of our terms, the deposit is refunded by "cheque or electronic transfer within 21 days of termination", less any unpaid fees or cleaning and repair costs. More in do I have to pay a deposit?
After that, rent is charged every four weeks, which is 13 payments a year. Rent for a Shipston container, at the listed price:
| Stay | Full price (budget with this) | With the offer |
|---|---|---|
| 4 weeks | £256 | £128 |
| 8 weeks | £512 | £256 |
| 12 weeks | £768 | £512 |
| 52 weeks (13 payments) | £3,328 | £3,072 |
The Chipping Norton tag is for the first 4 weeks, against the first 8 weeks in Shipston's price-list note, so don't carry Shipston's offer column across to Chipping Norton.
The offer comes with a condition: under our terms, if you don't pay on the due date, "the value of any discounts and special offers (including periods of free storage) which You have received will be payable by You in full" (clause 6, point (c) of the list that begins "You acknowledge that").
The minimum term is two weeks. To leave, give written notice (normally 14 days; see how to give notice), and our move-out guide refunds your deposit "and any unused days on your contract after the notice period".
Contents cover and a lock
Our insurance FAQ says "All customers require contents protection for their stored goods": you either take our cover or "arrange insurance at your own expense". If you use your own, we take our charge first and "will refund you the Goods Protection charges in full once proof of cover is supplied within 14 days of your move-in". The rate for our Contents Protection isn't published; it appears on your quote once you enter your goods' replacement value, or ask on 0800 2545585. It insures your own goods; damage your belongings do to others is your liability under clause 32, so check your home, business or public liability insurance.
Locking is your job: clause 21 makes you "solely responsible for securing the Unit", and you mustn't put a padlock in "Our overlocking position". Ask us whether your own padlock suits the container door. Our Box Shop sells an 82mm heavy-duty container shutter padlock for £36.
Moving house or storing furniture in a container
A 160 sq ft container can "comfortably hold the contents of a 3-bedroom home or even a 7.5-tonne lorry load", and you drive up and load straight in. Our booking pages say the Chipping Norton and Shipston containers are insulated "to stop condensation"; for any other container, ask when you book. At those two sites, the containers sit in an access-controlled compound monitored by CCTV. Our location pages say "each and every one of our self-storage units is individually alarmed", but our booking pages tag the indoor units that way and not the containers; ask us whether a container is alarmed, and how Warminster's container is secured. Access is normally 6am to 10pm; check your site's page.
At Shipston, the container is the cheaper choice per square foot: £64 a week against £77.50 for a 150 sq ft ground-floor indoor unit (52p per sq ft), £54 less every four weeks. That doesn't hold at Chipping Norton, which lists its 150 to 200 sq ft ground-floor indoor units at 34p to 39p per sq ft a week (£58 a week for 150 sq ft). So ask for the container and the nearest indoor size on the same quote.
For builders, farmers and businesses
Businesses can rent our containers: our business storage page names "indoor vs container storage" among the things that set the price, and mentions using a unit to "pick, pack and dispatch orders". Clause 22 says you'll use the unit "solely for the purpose of storage", not "as offices". You can't connect a power supply for equipment unless Wigwam authorises it (clause 22(e)). For VAT and invoices, see do you provide VAT invoices for business storage?
What can go in follows clause 18, which bars "combustible or flammable substances including but not limited to gas, paint, petrol, oil, cleaning solvents or compressed gases" and "any item that emits fumes, or odours":
- Mowers, strimmers and generators can go in once run completely dry (fuel tank emptied, carburettor run dry, engine oil drained). If it still smells of fuel, leave it out, and keep the fuel itself somewhere else.
- Fuel cans can't go in, even empty.
- Aerosols and spray paint can't go in, whatever the label.
- Tyres: our terms don't name them, so ask us before you bring them.
- Animal feed: food or perishable goods must be "securely packed so they are protected from and do not attract vermin" (clause 18(a)); ask us before you bring sacks.
- Batteries: clause 20 bars removable lithium-ion batteries over 160 watt-hours, and power banks.
