Packing service

A packing service is paid help to pack your belongings for a move or for storage: someone else wraps, boxes and labels your things, so you don't have to. You can buy it from a removals company as part of a move; GOV.UK's home-buying guide says you "can opt to pack yourself or have the removal firm do it for you".

At Wigwam

Our pages describe packing materials for sale, not a packing service of our own. Our FAQ says: "We sell boxes and packaging material", through the online Box Shop. The Standard Moving Kit (£99.99 on the Box Shop on 23 September 2026, shown as a sale price reduced from £126.48; the product page's data marks the price as including VAT, though the page text doesn't say so) holds 10 medium, 10 large and 5 tall double-walled boxes, a roll of packing tape, a marker pen and a 25-metre roll of bubble wrap. The shop promises "fast delivery direct to your door" but gives no delivery time. Our Chipping Norton and Leatherhead pages list an "On-site packaging store" and the same office hours: "Monday to Friday – 9:00am to 6:00pm", "Saturday – 9:00am to 2:00pm", "Sunday – Closed". Ring before you go to check stock.

For hands-on help, our FAQ says: "Please call us and we can put you in touch with our preferred removals." Our terms (clause 44) also mention "additional services We offer, such as delivery and collection", which "may be subject to additional charges". Whether packing is one of those services, and whether our preferred firms will pack for you, isn't published. Ask on 0800 2545585 before you book, and ask any firm whether packing is in its quote.

What to tell your packers

A packer boxing up a whole house won't know which boxes are heading into storage, so tell them. Clause 18 of our terms says you "must not store" items including "combustible or flammable substances including but not limited to gas, paint, petrol, oil, cleaning solvents or compressed gases", food or perishable goods "unless securely packed so they are protected from and do not attract vermin", and "currency, deeds and securities". Clause 20 also bars "portable battery chargers, power banks or any similar portable power source", so ask packers to check drawers for them. Mark those boxes for the new home, and keep cash, deeds and securities with you. The full list is in our prohibited goods FAQ.

Storing between homes? Ask the firm to keep the storage load separate from what goes to the new home; see removals storage.
