Sofa cover

A sofa cover, in moving and storage, is a large sheath of polythene or fabric pulled over a sofa to keep dust, dirt, spills and handling marks off the upholstery while it's moved and stored. It isn't a fitted slipcover or throw, which stays on the sofa at home to change its look or protect it in daily use.

At Wigwam

Our Box Shop sells these for delivery to your door. Prices as listed in September 2026 (the product pages' price data marks them as including VAT; the page text doesn't say):

Product What the shop says Price
Sofa Cover 2/3 Seater "Heavy-duty polythene"; fits "most standard sofas" £4.99
Arm Chair Cover x2 Pack "poly chair covers", two per pack £4.99
Dust Cover 3mx5m polythene, "perfect for covering beds, sofas, wardrobes, and stacked boxes" £5.49
Furniture Blanket (1500 x 2000mm) "heavy-duty textile fibres" that cushion "from knocks, scratches, and surface damage" £5.00

The sofa cover's dimensions aren't listed, so the shop doesn't say whether it fits a corner or modular sofa. It doesn't state a delivery charge either; ask on 0800 2545585. For buying in person, some sites sell packaging on site (can I buy boxes at a Wigwam site?), so ring yours to check it stocks covers.

Use polythene for the move, not the whole stay

A cover keeps the surface clean; it doesn't cushion, so wrap a blanket round the arms and corners for the van. Polythene keeps dirt out, and it keeps moisture in too. The product page says the cover "keeps your upholstery clean, dry, and protected" for "storing furniture long-term", but our furniture guide says: "Avoid plastic covers that trap moisture; use breathable fabrics instead to let air circulate." So cover the sofa only when it's clean and completely dry, and once it's in the unit, take the polythene off and lay a breathable cover, such as a cotton sheet or old duvet cover, over it instead. The Furniture Blanket's page doesn't say whether it breathes, so ask before relying on it as the stay-on cover. Keep it off the floor on pallets, as our packing tips suggest; our Box Shop doesn't list pallets, so bring your own.

Leather sofa? The same rule applies: our furniture guide warns of finding mould on "that once-pristine leather sofa".
