Bridging storage is storage that holds your belongings in the gap between leaving one home and moving into the next, typically when the completion dates on a sale and a purchase don't line up, or a chain is delayed. It has nothing to do with a bridging loan, which covers a gap in money rather than a gap in dates.
At Wigwam
A bridging stay uses our standard agreement, and the parts that matter most are the ones with dates in them:
- Our minimum stay is two weeks, so a short gap costs at least two weeks' storage.
- You can book as far ahead as you like, and a same-day move-in is possible if the size you need is free at your nearest site. Around a week ahead is the safer plan in busy moving periods.
- Access is 6am to 10pm, seven days a week, which covers an early start with the removals van and a late finish.
- To leave, you give notice as set on the front page of your agreement, normally 14 days, and we refund any unused days after the notice period.
- Your goods must be insured from the day they go in (clause 31), through our contents protection or your own policy.
Why the dates are the hard part
With a bridging stay, you often don't know the end date when you book. Rather than guess, book with the earliest realistic move-in date, and give notice once your completion date is fixed. If your removals firm is loading or unloading for you, clause 14 treats them as your agents, and you remain responsible for what they do on site. Clause 22(f) names removal contractors specifically: you must not cause or allow damage to the unit or the building, including by them.
