Square feet

A square foot (sq ft) is a unit of area: the area of a square measuring one foot on each side, about 0.093 square metres, so one square metre is about 10.8 sq ft. Storage units are usually sized in square feet of floor area. The figure describes the floor only: a 50 sq ft unit could be 5ft by 10ft or about 7ft by 7ft, and it tells you nothing about height.

At Wigwam

We size units in square feet of floor. Our pages describe sizes "from 10 sq ft to 300 sq ft", and some site pages add "larger units available on request". Our September 2026 price lists also include a 5 sq ft unit at Burton, a 365 sq ft unit at Tewkesbury, a 450 sq ft unit at Reading and a 1,000 sq ft bulk unit at Lincoln.

For indoor units we don't publish the length and width behind each size, or unit heights (see how high our units are). Clause 26 of our terms says: "Unit sizes are approximate. If You have exact requirements, You must check with Us before signing this Agreement as, by signing, You agree to the actual size of the Unit and not any represented unit size." If a long or tall item has to fit, call us on 0800 2545585 and ask for the length, width and height of the unit you're booking.

Price per square foot

On the medians (middle values) of the listed weekly prices on our September 2026 price lists, before any introductory offer, bigger units cost less for each square foot:

Size Median of listed weekly prices Per sq ft per week
10 sq ft £10.50 about £1.05
50 sq ft £35.75 about £0.72
200 sq ft £90.50 about £0.45

Your quote shows the price at your site. Nothing is added at checkout: the total in your quote is what you pay, and our prices include VAT. See how much our units cost.

Planning with it

If you're packing a home, work from the floor your things will cover. A Large Box from our Box Shop (450 x 450 x 500mm) takes about 2.2 sq ft, so 20 of them side by side cover about 44 sq ft. Stacking saves floor, but how high you can stack depends on the unit's height, so ask when you book. Our room-by-room size guide turns rooms into square feet.
