A storage unit is a private, lockable space you rent inside a storage facility to keep your own belongings, sized by its floor area in square feet. You pack it, lock it and visit it yourself. A "walk-in unit" is a unit big enough to step into, as opposed to a small locker you reach into from outside.
At Wigwam
Our terms define a unit as "a segregated area of Our Facility made available for You to secure and store Goods". Most of our units are purpose-built rooms inside our warehouses. A limited number of drive-up units and external shipping containers sit at Chipping Norton, Shipston-on-Stour and Warminster.
Our website gives the range as 10 to 300 sq ft. Our September 2026 price lists go wider at some sites, from a 5 sq ft unit at Burton-on-Trent to a 1,000 sq ft bulk unit at Lincoln, so which sizes you can book depends on the site. The middle price below is the point where half of the listed prices for that size are lower and half are higher, per four weeks:
| Size | Middle price | Range across sites |
|---|---|---|
| 25 sq ft | £78 | £44 to £188 |
| 50 sq ft | £143 | £82 to £304 |
| 100 sq ft | £230 | £136 to £524 |
Nothing is added at checkout: the total in your quote is what you pay, and our prices include VAT.
As a guide to what fits, our room-by-room size guide puts the contents of a one-bed flat or a studio in about 50 sq ft.
What to check
Clause 26 says "Unit sizes are approximate". If a wardrobe or a pallet has to fit exactly, check the unit with us before you sign, because signing means you accept the unit's actual size. The same clause makes you responsible for making sure the unit suits what you store in it. And a unit is for storage only (clause 22): not an office, a workshop, a home or a postal address.
