Why has my storage price gone up?

Usually for one of three reasons: we've changed the price, your introductory offer has ended, or a charge has been added to a payment. A price change needs our written notice first, and the new price starts on the first payment date at least 28 days after that notice; until then, our terms say you "may end this Agreement without charge before the change takes effect". When an introductory offer ends, you pay your unit's standard price. An added charge is usually a Late Payment Fee or, after a missed payment, repayment of your introductory discount.

Which one is it?

What you're seeing Most likely reason What to do
A letter or email from us about prices A notified price change Decide whether to stay; if not, give written notice in time (see below)
A bigger payment a few weeks after moving in Your introductory offer has ended Check the new figure matches the standard price on your quote
A one-off larger payment after a late or failed payment A Late Payment Fee, or repayment of your offer See "A charge has been added"
My payment went up and I can't find a letter A notice you haven't seen, or one of the reasons above See the next section

If none of these fits, call us on 0800 2545585.

If the new price has started and you never saw a notice

Check your spam folder and any old addresses you've used with us. Clause 39 says our notices go to the addresses on your Cover Sheet or "the most recent address in England and/or email address notified by You to Us and/or by direct message to Your social media accounts", and treats a notice as received "one day after sending by email or 48 hours after posting". If we can't reach you at your last address, the terms count notice served on the alternative contact person (ACP) on your Cover Sheet, so ask them too. Storing from abroad, or managing a late relative's unit? Keep the account's email address current. Ask us for the date the notice was sent and where it went. Our terms only allow a price change after written notice, so if none was sent, ask us to put it right.

Your introductory offer has ended

An introductory offer discounts your first weeks, and the offer differs by site (September 2026 price lists).

Unit During the offer After it ends
Reading, ground floor, 100 sq ft (50% off the first 8 weeks) £130 per four weeks £260 per four weeks
Burton-on-Trent, ground floor, 50 sq ft (75% off the first 8 weeks) £28.50 per four weeks £114 per four weeks

So a payment can double after 50% off, or quadruple after 75% off, with no change to the standard price. Those are two sites, not a typical price: across our price lists, 100 sq ft is listed at £136 to £524 every four weeks and 50 sq ft at £82 to £304; the medians (middle values) of the listed prices, before any introductory offer, are £230 and £143. Your quote or booking confirmation is what counts for your own unit.

Comparing us with another quote

We bill every four weeks (13 payments a year), so for a monthly figure multiply your four-week price by 13, divide by 12, and compare that with the other company's price after its offer ends. Nothing is added at checkout: the total in your quote is what you pay, and our prices include VAT (do storage prices include VAT?).

Whether an existing customer can move onto a current offer, or have a lower quote matched, isn't published. Ask on 0800 2545585 before you give notice: "Can you match this quote, or put me on today's offer, for my unit?" See do you price match?

We've changed the price

Clause 45 of our terms says:

"We may vary the Storage Fee or other terms of this Agreement and add new terms and conditions as long as such changes are notified to You in writing. The modified terms will take effect on the first Due Date occurring not less than 28 days after the date of Our notice. You may end this Agreement without charge before the change takes effect by giving notice in accordance with Clause 39. Otherwise, Your continued use of the Unit will be considered as Your acceptance of and agreement to the amended terms."

If you do nothing, the terms treat carrying on as accepting the new price. How often, or by how much, standard prices are reviewed isn't published; ask on 0800 2545585.

Leaving before the new price starts

Clause 45 lets you end "without charge before the change takes effect", with notice given the clause 39 way: in writing, by email to info@wigwamstorage.co.uk, or by hand or post to the address on your Cover Sheet. Use your usual notice period (the number of days on your Cover Sheet, clause 41; our move-out FAQ says normally 14 days) as the safe guide: if your notice period, counted from the day we receive your notice, ends before the day the new price starts, your agreement ends at the old price.

Example: you pay every four weeks on 16 March and 13 April, with a 14-day notice period.

Step Date
We email you about a new price 2 March
28 days later 30 March
New price starts (first payment date on or after 30 March) 13 April
Your 16 March payment, at the old price, covers you to 12 April
Latest day to email notice and still end by 12 April 28 March (received 29 March)

Your deposit is refunded within 21 days of the agreement ending, less any unpaid fees or charges (clause 4).

If you're later than that, and your notice would run past the date the new price starts, the terms don't say which price you pay for those last days. Ask on 0800 2545585: "My notice runs past the date the new price starts; can my agreement end before that date, and if not, which price do I pay for the days after it?" Get the answer, and your end date, in writing: clause 41 lets the end date change by agreement "in writing by both parties".

If more than one contact is named on the agreement, notice from any one of them counts (clause 39), which helps if you manage a parent's unit; see can someone else sign the storage agreement?

A charge has been added

Each late or cancelled payment incurs a Late Payment Fee (clause 5(b)), plus our costs of collecting late or unpaid fees (clause 5(c)). The amount of the Late Payment Fee is not published; ask on 0800 2545585.

Clause 6 (in the list that begins "You acknowledge that", point (c)) says: "if You do not pay Fees on the Due Date, the value of any discounts and special offers (including periods of free storage) which You have received will be payable by You in full." It sets no time limit, so a missed payment after the offer weeks can still trigger it. On the Burton-on-Trent example, that's £171 (£114 less £28.50, so £85.50, for each of the two discounted payments). The terms tie this to a missed payment, not to leaving. See what happens if I miss a storage payment?

Raising your contents protection cover, or moving to a bigger unit, also changes what you pay.

If you store for a business

A January 2020 post on our blog listed Chipping Norton containers "Starting at just £100 +VAT"; ask on 0800 2545585 which basis applies to your quote. Whether your invoice shows VAT you can reclaim is not published; ask on 0800 2545585.
