A rolling contract is an agreement with no fixed end date. It carries on from one period to the next until either side gives notice to end it. A fixed-term contract, by contrast, runs for a set length, such as six or twelve months, and may cost you money to leave early.
At Wigwam
Our site says: "Most Wigwam locations offer flexible weekly rolling contracts, so you're never locked into a long-term agreement." "Most" is not every, so check the Cover Sheet for your site before you sign. A rolling agreement carries on until either side gives notice; payments are taken per billing period (see billing cycle). Where the agreement rolls on, three things set the edges:
- A two-week minimum. Our FAQ says "2 weeks is our minimum term".
- Written notice to leave. Under clause 41, "either We or You may end this Agreement at any time by giving the other party written notice". The end date "must be at least the number of days indicated on the Cover Sheet". Our move-out FAQ says that's "Normally 14 days".
- Refunds after the notice ends. When you leave, we refund "any unused days on your contract after the notice period" (move-out FAQ).
While it runs, you pay for each period in advance (clause 5(a)). After your first four weeks, rent is charged automatically every four weeks, which is 13 payments a year, not 12 (see billing cycle).
Common confusion
Rolling doesn't mean you can leave the same day. The notice period still runs, and you pay for it. If you give less notice than your Cover Sheet requires, clause 41 lets us charge "apportioned Storage Fees" for the shortfall. So the useful habit is to give notice as soon as you know your leaving date, even if the unit isn't empty yet.
A rolling agreement also means the price isn't fixed for ever. We can change the Storage Fee or the terms with at least 28 days' written notice. Clause 45 says you "may end this Agreement without charge before the change takes effect by giving notice in accordance with Clause 39." It doesn't say whether your usual notice period still applies, so if you're leaving because of a change, ask us to confirm your end date in writing. See change to terms or fees.
