Upper-floor unit (mezzanine)

An upper-floor unit is a storage unit above ground level, on a first or second floor or on a mezzanine, reached by stairs or a lift. A mezzanine is an intermediate floor built inside a tall ground-floor space, rather than a full storey of the building.

At Wigwam

Our September 2026 price lists show units above the ground floor. Across the 100 sizes offered on both floors at the same site, the upper-floor unit is about 11% cheaper at the middle. The gap varies a lot:

Site and floor Size Ground floor Upper floor (per four weeks)
Chipping Norton, mezzanine 35 sq ft £116 £72
Leatherhead, first floor 100 sq ft £524 £416
Tewkesbury, first floor 100 sq ft £184 £170

Alton, March and Shipston-on-Stour charge the same on both floors, and at Bath a 10 sq ft unit costs slightly more upstairs (£70 against £64).

Two labels on our price lists are worth reading before you book. Chipping Norton's mezzanine is marked "No lift", although customer reviews on that site's location page describe using a goods lift to reach upstairs units, so ask the site how you would reach the unit you're offered. Leatherhead's first floor is also marked "No Lift". Some units on the second floor at Lincoln are listed as restricted height; if height matters, ask us before you book.

What to check

How heavy is the heaviest thing, and who is carrying it? A mezzanine saving on a 35 sq ft unit at Chipping Norton comes to £44 every four weeks, which adds up over a long stay, but only if everything can go up the stairs safely. Ask about the lift, the stair width and, at Lincoln, the ceiling height before you choose.
