Container unit

A container unit is a steel shipping container rented out as a storage unit. It usually stands outdoors in a secured yard, so you can park beside its doors and load straight from your car, van or trailer.

At Wigwam

We offer container units at three sites only: Chipping Norton, Shipston-on-Stour and Warminster. Our container page says a 160 sq ft container holds "the contents of a 3-bedroom home or even a 7.5-tonne lorry load". Container sizes differ by site, so check the size in your quote and ask us whether it suits your load. On our September 2026 price list, a 160 sq ft container at Shipston-on-Stour is £64 a week, or £256 per four weeks; Chipping Norton and Warminster container prices aren't on those lists, so ask for a quote.

At Shipston-on-Stour and Chipping Norton the containers sit in an access-controlled compound watched by CCTV. The container page doesn't describe Warminster's compound, so ask about security there. You hold the lock, the same agreement applies as for an indoor unit, and our terms count "external storage containers" as part of the facility.

Container or indoor unit?

A container gives you drive-up loading and a lot of space in one box, which suits a whole-house move, bulky equipment or trade stock. The trade-off is that a single steel box outdoors follows the weather more closely than a room inside a building. Clause 22(e) of our terms says you can't connect power or other services to a unit unless we authorise it, so ask before planning on a plug-in dehumidifier, and pack with moisture in mind: raise things off the floor, leave gaps for air, and avoid sealing damp items in plastic.

A container unit is different from the wooden containers removal firms use in their warehouses. Those are packed and handled by the removal company; a Wigwam container is yours to load and visit.
